-Bread for the Journey-
Food Ministry

Food insecurity is a real challenge for many neighbors in McElderry Park and the surrounding communities. Access to full-service supermarkets and healthy food that is affordable can be difficult and many neighbors are vulnerable due to a lack of steady income or safe places to live.  Bread for the Journey is one way we respond to these challenges, both increasing access and building community.

Through multiple partners including Maryland Food Bank, neighbors shop for food, diapers & household items at the client choice pantry every Friday at 10am.  We break bread together at the Tuesday soup kitchen at noon. We also have a produce truck on Thursday mornings at 7am. We even learn to prepare budget friendly healthy food through cooking classes together.  All of this work is designed to bring food security to families and create opportunities for deeper connections.

Our normal operations were altered to accommodate an increased need with limited volunteer capacity during the pandemic but we resolved to keep bringing the community this important resource. Bare with us now, as we reimagine what our new procedures and protocols will look like.  We welcome your input and feedback as we regroup.

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve and look forward to being able to sit down and break bread together with you and your family!
